There are stories that do not fit into language. The friend who keeps an eye out for you, even when you don't ask. The grandmother who slipped a small protective thing into your suitcase the morning you left home. The instinct to put a hand between someone you love and the world.
This pendant is for that kind of story.
A hamsa, painted by hand in a deep blue and warm cream on a soft yellow ground. An eye in the centre of the palm. Sun rays at the edges. Worn at the chest, where a hand might be placed.
The symbol. The hamsa — the hand of Fatima across North Africa, the hand of Miriam in Jewish tradition — is one of the oldest protective symbols in the world. The downward-facing palm wards off the evil eye. The eye in the centre returns the gaze of anything watching with intent. The five fingers are the five senses, kept whole.
It is not a religious symbol so much as an older one — carried by the women of households across thousands of years, from one generation to the next, often without explaining why.
Craft & spec. The image is hand-painted enamel — painted by hand and fired in layers, each colour applied separately, set in the kiln at approximately 800 degrees Celsius, allowed to cool, then layered again. The frame is cubic zirconia accents and engraved gold detail. The pendant body is 950 Britannia silver, finished in 3.0 microns of 18K gold vermeil. The chain is 925 sterling silver, also vermeil, 18 inches. Each piece is made to order in our workshop, and ships approximately 4 to 6 weeks after your order is confirmed.
For the friend leaving on a trip. For the daughter starting something new. For yourself, on the days you want a quiet hand at your chest.
A hand, where a word might not be enough.
