A miniature art studio.
Vivid Novel paints portrait miniatures in kiln-fired enamel on silver and 18K gold — the people, animals, and things somebody wants to keep. We work the way miniature painters have worked for five hundred years: by hand, under a microscope, one commission at a time.
THE WORK
Painted by hand. All of it.
Every piece begins as powdered glass and a photograph. A painter mixes the color, lays it on with brushes that hold a few hairs, and fires it into the metal at 1,470°F — then does it again, layer over layer, until the portrait is done.
There is no printing anywhere in the process. Slow is not a style we chose; it is what the work costs.
THE STUDIO
A workshop, not a factory.
We take on a limited number of commissions at a time, because each one holds a painter's full attention for weeks. When the queue is full, we say so and give you an honest date rather than a fast one.
We would rather tell you plainly what plating does over the years, what enamel minds, and what cannot be painted at this scale — before you order, not after. If that honesty ever costs us a sale, it was a sale that would have cost us more.
WHERE WE STAND
Animals are family. We paint them that way.
Nearly everything we are asked to paint began as somebody's family — a dog, a cat, a horse, a bird. We have never thought of them as subjects, and we don't paint them like subjects.
We support the principles of the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare, championed by World Animal Protection: that animals are sentient, that their welfare matters, and that cruelty toward them has no place. We put this in writing because a studio that lives on the love people have for their animals owes those animals a position.
